  1. Sign in to the IBKR Portal (Client Portal) in a web browser.
  2. Open Performance & Reports > Statements. You can also use Menu > Reporting > Statements.
  3. Next to Activity, click the Run arrow (➜).
  4. Set Period to Annual and choose the year under Date.
  5. Under Advanced Options, set the language to English. Set Format to CSV, then click Download.
  6. Repeat for every year since you opened the account. For 2026, choose Year to Date instead of Annual.
Mistakes to avoid
  • For past years, choose Annual, not Monthly or a custom range.
  • Choose CSV. We can’t read PDF or HTML statements.
  • Choose English. We read the English section names.
  • Get one file for every year since you opened the account. We need your old purchases to work out your gains.
  • Don’t open and re-save the files in Excel. Add the original downloads.
  • IBKR keeps annual statements in the Portal for the last 5 years. Older years may need a request and a fee (IBKR archive policy).
  • Can’t find it in the app? Open the IBKR Portal in your phone’s browser and follow the Computer steps.

From IBKR’s guides: Portal, iPhone, Android, and statement archive. Checked Nov 4, 2026.

    How we calculate

    • Matching sales to purchases. Each sale is matched first with shares of the same company bought the same day, then with shares bought in the next 30 days (earliest first), and then with your Section 104 holding at its average cost. HS284, CG51560
    • Costs. Commissions, exchange fees, and UK stamp duty are added to what you paid. IBKR already includes stamp duty in each trade’s commission, so we don’t count it twice. Taxes charged separately later the same day, such as France’s financial transaction tax, are added on top. Commissions on a sale are deducted as costs of selling.
    • Stock splits. A split changes the number of shares in your holding, not its cost.
    • Pounds. Each trade, dividend, and interest payment is converted on its own date using the Bank of England daily spot rate, or the latest earlier rate if none was published that day. HMRC doesn’t set a source but expects a reasonable, consistent method. CG78310, Bank of England
    • Losses. This year’s losses are set against this year’s gains first. Losses from earlier years only bring your gains down to the £3,000 annual exempt amount; the rest carries forward. SA108 notes
    • Foreign tax. You can only claim credit for US tax up to the 15% treaty rate. Anything above that is reclaimed from the US, not from HMRC. SA106 notes, UK–US treaty, Article 10
    • Whole pounds. Box figures are rounded the way HMRC allows: income and gains down, costs, losses, and tax paid up. SA100

ETFs and other funds, options, futures, bonds, CFDs, shares traded over the counter, corporate actions other than splits, share transfers between brokers, short sales, ISA and joint accounts, and years when you weren’t UK resident for the whole year. If your statements include any of these, we tell you which rows and don’t show totals that would be wrong. We don’t count gains or losses on currency conversions.
